Broaden your creativity in the Community Arts Partnership (CAP) Summer Academies - pre-college mentoring programs for L.A. County teens where you can study with the faculty, alumni and students of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). You have two program locations from which to choose: the CAP Visual & Performing Arts Academy in East Los Angeles or the CAP Film Academy in Crenshaw.


CAP Visual & Performing Arts Academy

For four weeks in July, you'll be a professional artist - dedicating every day to your art form in a studio-like environment. 

With state-of-the-art facilities - computer labs, recital halls, art studios and an 800-seat theater - you'll get the space to develop your skills in the media, literary, visual or performing arts. 

You'll create original work, get feedback and prepare application materials for college - all with expert guidance from the faculty, alumni and students of the California Institute of the Arts.

Program Details:

  • Participant Eligibility: Individuals must be in grades 10, 11, 12, or graduating high school in 2017must be between 15 - 18 years old by July 10, 2017 and must live in Los Angeles County 
  • Dates: Monday, July 10, 2017 through Friday, August 4, 2017
  • Times: Monday - Friday, 10am - 5pm

CAP Film Academy

Explore the art and craft of movie production in the CAP Film Academy.

Working in a group of filmmakers, you'll learn how to create film content, like writing screenplays, acting for the camera, scoring the music or managing a film crew of your own.

Or you can work on the film crew as a camera operator, cinematographer, grip, set designer or sound mixer.  

You'll be given cameras, laptops, software and 20 days to make a 5-minute long documentary, web series, newscast, TV show, public service announcement or live action film - all with the help of the faculty, alumni and students of the California Institute of the Arts.
