The application for the 2018 CAP Summer Arts Program (Visual & Performing Arts Academy and the Film Academy) at Dorsey High School will open in January 2018. 

Join the California Institute of the Arts for the 2018 summer! The Community Arts Partnership Summer (CAP) Arts Program is free to Los Angeles Unified School District high school students.

Study an arts discipline with alumni and students from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). For four weeks in starting in June, you'll learn what it means to be a professional artist; dedicating every day to your chosen art form. All levels of experience are welcome to apply. 

For the 2018 summer, CAP will be offering two different academies on one campus. Both academies will be hosted by Susan Miller Dorsey High School in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles. See details below:


1. Visual & Performing Arts Academy (VAPA)

Explore and study one of the six disciplines below.

Learn from your classmates and CalArts instructors as they guide you through each art form in detail over five weeks. At the end of the five weeks, each class will have the opportunity to perform and present what they learned for a Culmination Event.

2. Dorsey Film Academy (DFA)

Explore the art and craft of movie production in the CAP Film Academy.

Working in a group of filmmakers, you'll learn how to create film content, like writing screenplays, acting for the camera, scoring the music or managing a film crew of your own. At the end of five weeks, each group will have the opportunity to view and present their work.

Program Details for both academies:

Participant Eligibility 

1.Individuals must be in grades 9,10, 11, 12, or graduating high school in 2018 and must be between 14 - 18 years old by July 10, 2018.

2. Attend a Los Angeles Unified School District high school.

3. Qualify for free and or reduced price lunch through school.

4. Need extra arts enrichment (arts classes not offered during the school day).
